There is also a well stocked Somerfield (on the south side of town), and a Scottish Co-op (on the north side of town), both of which have the same range of goods as you would expect in a UK mainland branch. Country shops are a feature of Shetland and often have strong links to a past way of life. Many have been in the same family for some considerable time, and are worth spending some time browsing around. Many times you will be in some remote shop and maybe find that unusual pair of boot-laces you've been looking for, or that spare camera battery you kept meaning to buy, or you might turn up that really unusual gift for someone back home. And don't forget that the friendly person behind the till can often turn out to be the owner themselves. A few minutes spent chatting to them can often lead to new discoveries about what the local area has to offer the visitor.
