Private plane access
Shetland has a number of light aircraft landing strips, and a
number of private aircraft visit Shetland every summer. Airstrips are at
Sumburgh, Scatsta, Tingwall, Papa Stour, Foula, Skerries, Whalsay, Fair Isle and
Unst. Use of these airstrips is very dependent on weather, especially wind
direction, and local advice MUST be sought. The BEST source of information for
up-to-date Shetland airstrip reports and any special information is the office
of Loganair who run the inter-islands flights throughout Shetland, and
are based at Tingwall.
Call Loganair on +44 (0) 1595 840246 or 840247(Operations).
You can also find other useful web-based information - try
visiting the website at
www.fairisle.org.uk/airstrip for details of the airstrip on Fair Isle. Here
are a number of other pilot orientated websites which can help with further
information.
