By Sea For
thousands of years people have, of necessity, travelled to and from Shetland by
sea. Many still favour this route as it is safe and reliable and of course you
can bring your own vehicle if you wish.
There is a certain magic about arriving in Shetland on the
ferry from Aberdeen: the first sight of Fair Isle; passing Sumburgh Head and the
island of Mousa; and outstanding views of the rugged coastline.
As you sail up
the coast look out for whales, seals, gannets diving for fish, terns, fulmars,
puffins, guillemots and many other sea-birds. Your arrival in Lerwick harbour
will present you with a veritable hive of activity and interesting sights and
sounds. There are also ferry links to and from Norway, the Faroe islands and Iceland.

many other airports in the UK. Visitors from all over Britain and Europe can
easily reach Shetland.
British Airwaysoperate a
very regular service, with several flights most days, linking
Shetland with Aberdeen, Inverness and Glasgow, and further afield.
